F.A.Q.

How do I order a custom piece of furniture or decor?
To order or inquire about a piece of furniture or decor you can email me, call me or message me on instagram or facebook. Click here to access all my contact information.
What is involved in a consultation?
Basically two words, custom and detail. One of the most fun parts of a project is the idea and design stage. Emails with ideas/pictures help to start the process and then if possible I like to visit your home to see your space. This helps me hone in on style, types of wood, colour and overall vibe of your piece. If this is not possible, phone or FaceTime/Skype calls can be made. Then we discuss your needs and vision and work together to develop a basic concept or idea. I take measurements of the space, go over some finer detail options and take it from there! With this information I develop a design or designs for your custom piece and place it in a scaled sketch of your space to ensure proportions/ratios look correct and make sense. A quote is attached and all of this is sent to you. The hope is that your design expectations and vision are met and that you have a clear and accurate idea of how your piece will fit into your home. Check out my “start to finish” story on Instagram to see a comparison of the initial sketch, to the final product.
How much will it cost (e.g. table, bed, cutting board etc.)?
Reef Woodworks is a custom furniture and decor shop and therefore prices can vary significantly depending on size, complexity and species of wood chosen etc. Each piece is discussed with the customer before work begins to go over the various options and make decisions based on the vision they have. There are many options, even for something as simple as a charcuterie board. This is a large part of the fun when designing and building custom furniture and decor.
Can I order from the website?
It’s not possible to order directly from the Reef Woodworks website. The options available for each custom piece are too numerous and specific for it to work. Click here to inquire or place an oder.
How do I take care of my custom piece of furniture or decor?
Wood is a natural substance and as a result behaves differently than a piece of furniture that has been made with engineered materials. You should avoid drastic changes in temperature or humidity and harsh chemical cleaners. Although modern wood finishes have come a long way in terms of durability, you should still ensure any moisture/spills are cleaned up in a timely manner. Wooden boards should never be soaked in water, just wiped with warm soap and water and allowed to fully dry by placing them on end.
Do you have any pre-made products for sale?
Occasionally I produce products to test new techniques or materials and will at times put these up for sale. Keep checking instagram and facebook for these opportunities!
Stain vs finish vs paint
Stain adds a colour to wood while highlighting the grain to varying degrees. Paint will also add colour but it hides most of the wood’s appearance and characteristics. Finish is often called stain however it is very different in the fact that it does not add “colour” to the wood. It is a clear protective coating that can enhance the wood’s natural character and increases the durability of the piece. It is the last part of any project and can be used on its own or after stain is applied.
Do you deliver?
Depending on the item and your location I will either hand deliver your piece myself or make arrangements to have someone deliver it to you. If it has been arranged to be hand-delivered in this manner, delivery fees are “included” in the price of your piece. If your item needs to be shipped, or if certain special delivery methods are required, additional fees/costs will be discussed prior to completing your order.
