  • Live Edge

The term “live edge” refers to a piece of wood that has not had the natural edges cut off. This retains the shape, curves and contours of the tree. These pieces of wood are sometimes described as a slab. Live edge can mean that the bark is still on the piece or it can be removed and still considered live edge. A live edge slab displays the complete cross section of a tree from the bark or sap wood on one side of the tree, all the way through the centre to the other side. The live edge on a particular piece can be very subtle or very intricate, curvy and dramatic.
  • Reclaimed

Reclaimed wood generally refers to wood that has been taken from an old building and cleaned up to some degree. Most commonly the reclaimed material comes from 100+ year old barns. You can expect saw marks, nail holes, dents, scratches, mortises and many other bits of character that come from a piece of wood that has been used and abused for many years. Much of the charm comes from attempting to keep the character that has been created over these years.
  • Solid Wood

Solid wood furniture refers to a piece of furniture that has been made without the use of any engineered products such as plywood, MDF, laminate, melamine. A solid wood piece can be made from hard or softwood. Hardwood, which is generally more durable, comes in many varieties from the common domestics, (e.g. walnut, maple, cherry) to the very exotic (e.g. ebony, purple heart, cocobolo). Soft woods are often used in areas that see less traffic as they tend to be less durable. Some species include pine, hemlock and cedar. The large selection of hard and soft wood allows you to pick and choose a specific type to meet the various needs of your piece of furniture. Even within a particular species there are variations that can add uniqueness and character.
